Healthy Food Pantry
Our Food Pantry provides supplemental food to those in our community experiencing hunger. Currently serving over 3500 persons each month, individuals participating in our Pantry Program are provided a monthly allotment, which supplies each household with a weeks worth of grocery staples, including nonperishable foods, bread, meats, produce, and more, as available. Open three days out of the week, the SPH food pantry is a central resource center for various services made available to low-income families and individuals. This includes health clinics, veteran’s services, health services, and access to other agencies and programs, on both a local and national level. Throughout the year, we support our pantry members with special programs to meet additional needs outside of their regular food allotment. This includes providing gifts for children and teenagers during the holiday season, warm coats, hats, gloves, & scarves in the winter months, and a turkey with all the fixings at Thanksgiving.

Family Shelter
At our shelter, we provide short-term housing for homeless and at-risk families. Families must be registered with Passaic County Social Services and receiving benefits for a maximum permitted stay of 120 days. Our purpose is to assist the families as they get back on their feet and seek a more permanent residence. Our transitional shelter consists of two homes – one family, four-bedroom home, as well as a two-family house that includes both a three-bedroom and a two-bedroom unit. At capacity, our three apartment units can shelter up to 18 people at any given time. The goal of our shelter program is to support and maintain the family as a unit, provide case management, and assist our families in obtaining safe, affordable housing. Our utmost priority is to keep each family intact so that they can maintain the normal rhythm of life. Our families work with a social worker, in cooperation with other services, to obtain more stable housing. During their stay, we also work with tenants to identify the root causes that have led to their current situations and ensure the entire family is obtaining the support they need, both on the individual level and as a whole. We accept families of any configuration, including inter-generational and extended families, and are particularly concerned for our veterans with families who are experiencing any degree of homelessness. We work closely with veteran organizations to identify benefits available to them, including housing and health aid.

The services we provide at St. Peter’s Haven focus on supplemental food assistance, transitional housing, and casework services, all of which allow our families to maintain a sense of normalcy and empowerment while they work to overcome difficult times and circumstances. We assist in getting families back on their feet by working in cooperation with other social services to assure the families receive all the benefits available to them, including veteran benefits, housing, food subsidies, cash assistance, and many others.
