Peer Support Program: Horizon Behavior Health

What is Peer Support?

Peer support is shown to be effective at helping people overcome a wide range of challenges, including mental health conditions and Substance Use Disorders (SUD). Peer support is covered under most Horizon insurance plans, which may mean no out-of-pocket costs to you.

Peer support specialists can help you strengthen your recovery and wellness skills and connect you with treatment and other resources. Through shared understanding, respect and mutual empowerment, peer support specialists can help you become and stay engaged in the recovery process and reduce the likelihood of relapse.

With a peer support specialist, you can:

  • Develop a personal support system
  • Feel more connected to therapy
  • Improve relationships with your family and community
  • Improve your social connections
  • Increase your quality of life
  • Reduce the chance of relapse
